Experience is only gained by doing.
Something that sounds easy can be quite challenging...
An idea perfectly encapsulated by an essay I recently found...

“things that aren't doing the thing”.

Ultimately, it's why simulated tests are so necessary.
In cybersecurity, we have:

phishing simulations
incident response simulations
table top business continuity tests
network vulnerability tests
penetration tests

There is only so far that book learning can take you.
Then, it is all about doing...
again and again and again.
